Jet Airways passenger held at Kolkata Airport for allegedly speaking about Blowing up Plane
Kolkata: A passenger travelling on a Jet Airways flight was detained at Kolkata airport after he was reportedly heard speaking on the phone that he would blow up the plane and seen sending a photo of a masked man, the police said today.
The Jet Airways flight 9W 472 was going from Kolkata to Mumbai, as the plane was taxing for take off to runway at 08:15 a.m. When the passenger, Yogvedanta Poddar, was posting the photo to Snapchat of a masked man with the words ‘Terrorist,Destroy’. Which a fellow passenger saw him doing this, the alarmed passenger then discreetly informed one of the cabin crew, who rushed to the cockpit and alerted the pilots about a possible threat to the aircraft.
“The pilot reported the matter to the ATC (air-traffic controller),” an airport official said.
Following which the plane was returned to the parking bay at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport and the suspect was then arrested by Central Industrial Security Force and handed over to the police for questioning.
According to PTI report, He was flying to Mumbai to appear in a job interview, said police.
The police said they are looking at his antecedents to determine if he was a threat. His family has been called to the police station. The man’s father reportedly said his son was simply “fooling around” with his friends.
The plane then left for Mumbai after an Hour of delay at 09:36 a.m. The Aircraft has safely landed in Mumbai Airport after 2.45hrs and headed to Goa on its onward journey.
